In these turbulent economic times, change is inevitable and sometimes painful - especially with an organization's most valuable asset - its employees. This series will focus on one of the most difficult aspects of human resources management in not-for-profit organizations. Topics will include: handling lay-offs and notifying employees, downsizing or restructuring, contingency workforce plans, survivor guilt, and changing employees' status from full-time to part-time. The economic climate has also changed the way progressive non-profits are containing employee benefit plan costs. These trends and strategies will be discussed.
CEDU705 - Your "Identity" Strategy: Marketing and Promoting your Not-for-Profit - November 12, 2009; Facilitator: Brent Robertson
This workshop will help you reinforce your organization's "Identity". With a clearly defined identity, you will be more effective in marketing and promoting your organization. Your identity will be helpful to find out what groups of customers (or markets) exist, what their needs are, what groups of customers you prefer to serve (target markets), what products or services you can develop to meet their needs, how potential customers prefer to use your products and services, what your competitors are doing, and what pricing you should use. Establishing your identity can also include ongoing promotions, advertising, public relations, fund raising events, and customer service.
CEDU702- Successful Proposal Writing for Grant Funding - December 10, 2009; Facilitator: Laura Martineau, MA
This workshop provides an overview of what should be included in a proposal requesting grant funds. It is important to have a good sense of how the project proposal fits with the philosophy and mission of the agency. The need that the proposal is addressing must also be documented. These concepts must be well-articulated in the proposal. Funding agencies want to know that a project reinforces the mission and the overall direction of an organization. The proposal will need to convince the funding authority that the project meets a community need.
