The Post-Graduate Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy offers a sequence of graduate level courses. These courses are designed to enhance the skills of school psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, and other professionals in related fields.

A fifteen-credit program designed to enhance the skills of professionals to work with families, couples and individuals.
A unique feature of the program is the group supervision of clinical cases in Marriage and Family Therapy that meets twice a month.
The certificate can be earned in 18 to 24 months.
Classes are conveniently offered Monday through Thursday afternoons and evenings.

Sequence of Courses

Communication and Systems Theory (3 credits)
A foundational course that covers the historical development of the field of family therapy and provides an understanding of systems theory and its application to therapy.

Family Assessment (3 credits)
Learn to conduct family assessment, practice interviewing skills, and develop an effective treatment focus.

Practicum I: Supervision in Marriage and Family Therapy (1 credit)
Designed to specifically meet the needs of professionals consulting with families and couples in their congregation. Provides the opportunity to reflect on theoretical learning and develop an individual therapeutic style through discussions of cases brought in for presentation.

Family Intervention (3 credits)
Presents the nuts and bolts of specific intervention approaches with emphasis on in-class practice and role playing.

Practicum II: Supervision in Marriage and Family Therapy (1 credit)

Marital Therapy (3 credits)
Provides a framework for conducting therapy with couples. Major issues facing couples, such as alcoholism, violence, sexual issues and mental illness are covered.

Practicum III: Supervision in Marriage and Family Therapy (1 credit)
