Saint Joseph College intends to establish a School of Pharmacy in recognition of the growing demand for pharmacists in the U.S. The College already has a pre-pharmacy program and now anticipates the professional program starting in 2010, pending receipt of various approvals.
The combination of the pre-pharmacy program and the new School of Pharmacy will allow the college to offer the following program options for students:
- For those with bachelor's degrees (and all the appropriate pre-requisites): a three-year doctoral level degree in pharmacy (Pharm.D.) as early as Fall 2010
- For those without bachelor's degrees as early as Fall 2009:
- A program where students complete four years of undergraduate coursework leading to a bachelor's degree, and then three years within the Pharm.D. program
- A BS/Pharm.D. program for exceptionally strong students (including transfers with advanced standing) whereby a B.S. degree and Pharm.D. are completed in 6 years.
In keeping with the College's founding mission and values of service, the pharmacy doctorate addresses a demonstrated need in the community and is supported by the College's core competencies. Specifically, the College's reputation for offering high-quality programs, especially in health and human services, is well established. An advisory board of community leaders and pharmacy professionals will inform the pharmacy doctorate.
