Religious Studies
The Saint Joseph College Religious Studies program probes the ultimate questions of our existence: what is the meaning of life? What are our obligations to God and to each other? As a Religious Studies major, you will explore these issues through the study of theology, comparative religions, spirituality, morality and social justice.
Where better to study Religious Studies than at a College rooted in the Mercy traditions of compassionate service, ethical values, and academic excellence? Founded in the Catholic intellectual tradition, SJC welcomes members of all faiths.
Options of Study
We offer a major in Religious Studies with several different concentrations: Religion, Religious Education, Ministry, Justice and Peace, Christian Living, and Scripture. There is also a general minor in Religious Studies that coincides with a certificate, and an interdisciplinary minor in Justice and Peace Studies.
Internships
Students in the Religious Studies program participate in internships at churches, hospitals, outreach programs, and volunteer organizations. Recent internships have taken place at the Catholic Worker House, the Connecticut Coalition for Affordable Housing, and Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish. Students have also interned abroad, studying social justice issues in Nicaragua and Guatemala.
