Catherine E. Hoyser, Ph.D.

Dr. Catherine Hoyser cites Women's Studies as a major part of her educational training. Her feminist pedagogy manifests itself in the classroom, where she engages her students as "equal scholars." She explains: "I push them toward a high level of learning. I expect them to challenge assumptions, read critically, and participate in class discussions." These methods develop students' minds and their self-confidence.

Our 36-credit bachelor of arts degree is your entry into the formidable field of Women's Studies where you will study the history, expression, and diversity of women's experiences. We offer:

A Multidisciplinary Curriculum
The Women's Studies major offers both freedom and opportunity. All courses offered examine issues and activities inherent to the field of Women's Studies. Students select an area of concentration like Women in the Arts; Women, Science and Health; Women and Politics, Women and Sports; and Women and International Studies.

An Outstanding Faculty
All professors teaching the Women's Studies courses are committed to guiding students into the complex world of feminism and gender and to teaching critical thinking, research, and communication skills. As a Women's Studies major, you will study with multidisciplinary experts in feminist theories, women's leadership, philosophy, research methods, global economic and work issues, women's health issues, and psychology, among others. You will also experience artistic productions from a variety of cultures.

Internships
Students majoring in Women's Studies participate in internships with local organizations that are committed to the well being of women and children, including the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame and the Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women.
