Pamela Aselton was inspired to return to school to earn her doctorate in Nursing after working as a nurse practitioner in various college health centers and seeing an “increased number of stressed and depressed students.” As such, she wanted to conduct research on depression. “Medications are one option, but I was interested in researching what was causing college students to be so depressed, and whether non-medical treatments would be just as effective.”
Professor Aselton recently began teaching Advanced Health Assessment to graduate nursing students. “I really enjoy teaching NP students and encouraging them to be life-long learners,” she said. Professor Aselton hopes to instill in her students “an openness to explore new ideas with patients and listen to their perspectives on their illness in determining a treatment plan.”
Likewise, Professor Aselton speaks highly of her colleagues in the Nursing department: “The faculty here is very adept at producing professional, caring nurses.”
