Assistant Professor Marianne Snyder believes that the purpose of an education is not to fill the students' minds with facts, but to teach them to think for themselves. "I try to use examples in my courses that support this philosophy. If given the tools, learners will rise to the expectations. This faith also puts the responsibility back on the students to get the most out of their education."
Before coming to Saint Joseph College, she taught in a nursing college in Charleston, West Virginia. "When it came time to move on, I did my research and looked at a number of colleges." she said, "I read the mission statement on the Saint Joseph College website and I knew it was the environment in which I wanted to immerse myself. I am committed to helping each student reach their fullest potential, while supporting the mission of the college."
Among her professional accomplishments, Assistant Professor Snyder was recognized by peers at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, for her work promoting health and human service programs for women in the community. Now that she is at Saint Joseph College, she enjoys learning as much from students as they do from her. She said, "The collaboration between teacher and student is what makes it so special here."
