International Students FAQ

At Saint Joseph College, we are proud to be an important part of our local and global communities. We accomplish this through a variety of initiatives within our academic programs, our service initiatives, and our International student programs. We understand that the process to become an International student is unique to each individual. As a result, we urge you to contact the Office of Admissions as early as possible to begin working with our Designated School Officer. Learn more about the international application process.

How do I obtain an I-20 F-1 student visa?

International students applying for Undergraduate, Graduate, and Adult Learner programs are eligible to obtain an I-20 F-1 student visa from the Designated School Officer on campus. The student must be enrolling full-time at the college (12 credits for Undergraduates and Adult Learners, 9 credits for Graduate students) and cannot be completing an online degree program. The student must submit a copy of his/her passport, a certificate of finances, and complete the International Student Supplement Form. Additional materials may be requested by the Designated School Officer.

As an International student, am I eligible for scholarship money and/or financial aid?

International students applying for the Undergraduate Degree programs will be considered for academic-based scholarship money using a combination of their high school or university record and their official SAT/ACT test scores. International students who wish to be considered for these scholarships, must take the SAT/ACT test. Scholarships range up to $15,000 per year, renewable all four years. Federal and State-funded financial aid is reserved for domestic students.

Can I work while I am on an F-1 student visa?

International students can work part-time while they are studying at the College. Students must work under 20 hours per week and follow proper procedure to file taxes on their earnings. Often International students choose one of the many jobs offered on campus.

Will my F-1 student visa allow me to bring my husband/wife/children with me?

International students with an F-1 student visa are able to obtain supporting visas for their dependents (husband/wife/children). While staying in the United States on a dependent visa the family member(s) are not permitted to work or engage in full-time study. The dependent will obtain an F-2 visa. Please be advised that Saint Joseph College does not have family housing available on campus.
