Q: How do I apply for admission?
A: Interested students are asked to submit an application ($50.00 application fee waived if submitted online). Applicants must also submit the following: an official high school transcript or official General Education Diploma (G.E.D.) transcript; official transcript(s) from all college(s) previously attended, including evidence of degrees earned; SAT or ACT scores, if available. You may be asked to submit a catalog and/or course description(s) from the college(s) you attended.
Q: Will my credits transfer?
A: Saint Joseph College recognizes academic credit that has been awarded to students at other regionally accredited higher education institutions, insofar as courses are of the general nature of courses offered at the College. Generally, this credit will be applied toward the minimum semester credit hours required for graduation. Credits taken elsewhere that the student wishes to apply toward a major area of study must be approved by the appropriate departmental faculty. Only credits of C- or better are accepted in transfer. (For students transferring to the Department of Nursing, grades in science courses must be C or better.) Saint Joseph College does not grant transfer credit for "Credit by Examination" completed at other colleges. Also, Saint Joseph College does not usually accept P grades unless they are proven to be worth C or better. View Connecticut community college course equivalencies.
Q: When will I find out if I have been accepted?
A: Notification of admission is made on a rolling basis (except those applying to transfer for the Nursing program, please see the Nursing information packet for specific deadlines). As soon as an applicant's credentials are complete, the application is reviewed by the Admissions Committee and the candidate is informed of the decision in writing. The Committee's acceptance of a candidate is contingent upon the successful completion of any academic work currently in progress. Following acceptance, a credit evaluation will be performed by an evaluator in the Registrar's Office. To indicate acceptance of the offer of admission, the applicant completes the appropriate confirmation form and submits a non-refundable deposit which is credited to the first semester's bill.
Q: When can I register?
A: To indicate acceptance of the offer of admission, the applicant completes the appropriate confirmation form (included with acceptance letter), and submits a non-refundable deposit which is credited to the first semester's bill. Once this is received by the Office of Admissions, an Academic Advisor will contact the student to set up a registration appointment.
Q: Do I need to schedule a personal interview?
A: Personal interviews are not required as part of the admission process for transfer students. However, we strongly recommend you schedule an interview to discuss the admission and credit evaluation process, and to learn more about Saint Joseph College. If you are a transfer or second degree student interested in the Nursing program, please review the information packet.
Q: I have a copy of my transcript but it is opened. Will this be accepted?
A: In order for a transcript to be considered official, it must be submitted to Saint Joseph College in a sealed envelope, and must bear the official seal of the college or university. Unofficial or opened transcripts are not accepted.
Q: Where do I send my admission application and transcripts?
A: Please apply online and then have your official transcripts mailed to: Saint Joseph College Office of Admissions, 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117.
Q: I took courses at a Connecticut community college. How do I know if they will be accepted?
A: Saint Joseph College has an articulation agreement with Connecticut's community colleges. To find out which courses are accepted in transfer from these institutions, view course equivalencies.
Q: How recent do my science courses have to be if I am interested in applying for the Nursing program?
A: Biology and Chemistry courses should be no more than 8 years old to be accepted in transfer toward the Nursing program pre-requisite requirements.
Q: Will science courses taken without labs be accepted in transfer?
A: Pre-requisite sciences are only accepted to meet the requirement if they are taken with a lab.
Q: With what health care facilities does SJC have clinical placements for Nursing students?
