Peart sets record in victory
LONGMEADOW, Mass., Sept. 8, 2010 -- Senior Eva Peart (Bloomfield, Conn.) had a goal and assist and broke the school record for most points in a career as Saint Joseph defeated Bay Path 7-0 Wednesday in Longmeadow.
Peart now has 29 goals and 19 assists for 77 points and surpassed Paige Briglia, who had 76 points from 2007-09.
Saint Joseph junior Stacey Rutledge (Meriden, Conn.) scored twice for the Blue Jays, giving her a team-leading four goals on the young season. Sophomore Kristin Whitman (South Windsor, Conn.) also scored for the Saint Joseph, which got single tallies from three first-year players: Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.), Tiana Saracino (Plainville, Conn.) and Danielle Duquette (Watertown, Conn.).
Saint Joseph outshot Bay Path, 35-5. Junior goaltender Holly Mirabella (Seymour, Conn.) made two saves for her second shutout. Saint Joseph improved to 3-0; Bay Path is 0-3.
Saint Joseph next plays at Mount Ida, Sat. Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. and next plays home Sat. Sept. 18, hosting Johnson & Wales at 1 p.m.
Saint Joseph starts with two
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 4, 2010 -- Freshman forward Patricia Nolan (Portland, Conn.) scored two first-half goal in her second collegiate game helping Saint Joseph College to a 4-2 victory Saturday over Manhattanville in a non-conference home match.
Saint Joseph is now 2-0 and has won its first two games of the season for the first time in three years. Manhattanville, 17-2-1 a year ago, is 0-2.
Nolan began the scoring just two minutes, 10 seconds into the game with the first of two nearly-identical scores, scoring from the left side just inside the 18, and putting the ball in the right side of the goal.
Manhattanville received a goal from sophomore Morgan Rebollal to tie the score at the 6:22 mark, but the Blue Jays tallied three times to lead 4-1 at the half. Nolan scored again at 16:57, freshman Nicole Mendelson (Southbury, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal at 19:57 and junior Stacey Rutledge (Meriden, Conn.) scored her second goal of the season at 21:03.
Freshman Deborah Gilwit (New Rochelle, N.Y.) scored for Manhattanville with 5:00 remaining in the game. Manhattanville outshot Saint Joseph, 13-9.
Saint Joseph next plays at Bay Path College Wed., Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. and next plays home Sat. Sept. 18 in a 1 p.m. match-up against Johnson & Wales.
Blue Jays begin with win
WEST HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 1, 2010 -- Saint Joseph College senior Eva Peart (Bloomfield, Conn.) had a goal and an assist as the Blue Jays defeated Coast Guard 2-0 Wednesday at home.
Both teams were playing their season openers. It was the first-ever win for Saint Joseph against Coast Guard, which had won all four previous meetings.
Saint Joseph outshot Coast Guard, 15-4 in the first half, but it ended scoreless. The Blue Jays broke through 1 minute, 10 seconds into the second half on a goal by junior Stacey Rutledge (Meriden, Conn). Peart made a diagonal pass through to Rutledge 35 yards out and Rutledge carried the ball to about 12 yards out and scored.
Peart scored the other goal in the 59th minute after a goalmouth scramble.
"To start the season with a win against a team we hadn't beaten before is a good way to come out of the pre-season," Saint Joseph coach Chris Legates said. "We've seen what we need to do better and we'll move forward, trying to improve those things."
For Coast Guard, junior goaltender Mary Mills (St. Louis, Miss.) made 16 saves. For Saint Joseph, junior Holly Mirabella (Seymour, Conn.) made five saves for her second shutout in two career starts. The Blue Jays outshot Conn, 22-7.
Saint Joseph hosts Manhattanville, Sat. Sept. 4 at 1 p.m.
