Saint Joseph College Announces Recipients of the 2009 Distinguished Alumnae Awards and the Winifred E. Coleman Service Award

Saint Joseph College recently recognized two alumnae who have distinguished themselves by making outstanding contributions within their professional fields, respective communities, and in their family lives. In addition, a member of the Saint Joseph College community has been honored for her exceptional service with a recognition named for a beloved and respected past president of the College.

School of Pharmacy Appoints Bruce Edgren

Saint Joseph College's School of Pharmacy has announced the appointment of Bruce Edgren, Pharm.D., RPh, as chair, department of pharmacy practice and administration. Dr. Edgren joins the College's new School of Pharmacy which is set to enroll the first year class of students as early as the Fall of 2010, pending appropriate approvals.

SJC Receives Award for Innovative Program Committed to Latino Student Success

Saint Joseph College will receive a $50,000 grant to support Latino student success in degree programs in health, education and human services, the non-profit organization Excelencia in Education announced on September 8.

Celebrating Convocation 2009

The official ceremony that launches the academic year, Convocation 2009 took place in The Connor Chapel of Our Lady on August 31, bringing the College-wide community together in an event that commemorates the intellectual and the spiritual aspects of a Saint Joseph College education.

Autism Summer Institute at Saint Joseph College from August 3 - 6

Saint Joseph College is currently offering an Autism Summer Institute. This four-day program is designed to provide parents, educators and professionals with an introduction to autism spectrum disorders and education/intervention strategies. Over 100 attendees are taking part in this week's summer institute.

The WAY (Women Advocates for Youth) Honors SJC Professor Shyamala Raman, Ph.D.

Saint Joseph College Professor of Economics and International Studies Shyamala Raman, Ph.D. was honored as a newly-inducted member of The WAY (Women Advocates for Youth) during the organization's recent anniversary celebration.

SJC Nursing Professor Wins Teaching Excellence Award

Marylouise Welch, Ph.D., professor of Nursing at Saint Joseph College, has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the Reverend John J. Stack Teaching Excellence Award. She was also recognized this past spring as a 2009 Florence Nightingale Award honoree for excellence in nursing.

Dennis Barone, English professor, director of the American Studies program at St. Joseph College and the author of 14 books, was recently named the second West Hartford Poet Laureate in the town's history. Out of seven nominations, he was selected by committee and will serve a two-year term.

Saint Joseph College launched its new Web site geared to prospective students, their parents, visitors and alumnae/i on Monday, June 29. Faculty, staff and current students are reminded to use MySJC as a gateway to e-mail, Blackboard, Ceridian and other internal information.
