A Home for the World’s Classics
At St. John’s College in Santa Fe, we do something no other college does: we bring together the classics of the West, the East, and—now—the Middle East too. In our vibrant community of learning, the foundational texts of the world’s great traditions are read, discussed, and challenged in a community of learners dedicated to timeless questions, enduring ideas, and friendship across cultures. Students can join the conversation in-person or online through low-residency enrollment.
Our Master’s Programs
The Western Classics
How did our modern world come to be? In our Master of Arts in Liberal Arts, students explore 3,000 years of Western thought: from ancient Greece and Rome, to the rise of Christianity and the Enlightenment, to the development of democracy and the American experiment. But more importantly, students engage with faculty and peers to discover the most undeniable thing of all: our shared humanity.

The Middle Eastern Classics
What intellectual scholarship happened between the fall of Rome and the European Renaissance? Our Master of Arts in Middle Eastern Classics explores the texts and authors of Jewish and Islamic civilizations, whose stewardship fostered the rebirth of scientific and philosophical inquiry in Europe. Here, students and faculty explore questions of divine wisdom, happiness, and more in a singular program of study. This program is currently only available in-person in Santa Fe.

The Eastern Classics
What do the most searching, profound, and beautiful texts of ancient China, India, and Japan tell us about what it means to be human? In our Master of Arts in Eastern Classics , students immerse themselves in philosophical, literary, and religious works of this region that raise timeless questions which are fundamental to understanding the past through a whole new lens.
