Since 1983, Johnnies on the Annapolis campus have faced off against the midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy in a friendly-but-fierce rivalry for the Annapolis Cup and bragging rights as the best croquet team in town.
After a two-year hiatus, the Naval Academy graciously hosted the Annapolis Cup with St. John’s College for the first time in 2022. The tradition returned to the St. John’s College campus in 2023 and 2024. The resulting victories for St. John’s brought the overall record to 32 wins for Johnnies and 8 for the Naval Academy’s midshipmen.
The United States Croquet Association participated in the Annapolis Cup in 2023. Organized in 1977 by Jack Osborn, the USCA established croquet as a serious sport in America and remains the primary organizing force behind its growth and development. The USCA has nearly 300 member clubs and 3,000 members, sanctioning hundreds of local, regional, national and international tournaments each year.
St. John’s College offers a variety of events on campus, including art exhibits, musical and theatrical productions, and lectures and community seminars year-round that are open to the public. Visit the Events Calendar to learn more.
