Red in Tooth and Claw? Reexamining the Evidence that Competition is the Driving Force in Evolution
In 1859, Charles Darwin, and his contemporary, Alfred Russell Wallace, published works which introduced the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. This book examines those works. The examination reveals that Darwin and Wallace offered voluminous strong evidence that evolution can and did occur. On the other hand, without presenting any evidence, they assumed (postulated) that competition is central in nature and is the operative force in evolution.
A further examination of other key writings about evolution reveals that, to this day, scientists of evolution have assumed, and not collected data, that competition between living things, including humans, is central, and is the driving force in evolution.
This book concludes with a discussion of the consequences, to science and everyday life, which result from the above analyses.
