What to Expect

The morning holds a Presidential Meet & Greet continental breakfast, introductory faculty remarks on how to get the most out of a St. John’s experience, and your intimate seminar with tenured faculty on Lysistrata by Aristophanes. We hope and trust that conversations begun in seminar will continue over the lunch that follows, which will include not only the seminar faculty but also the College’s president, Nora Demleitner, and other college and community leaders. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Mitchell Art Museum and preview our newest exhibit: Theatre of Turmoil.

Our afternoon panel of St. John’s tutors will take the Lysistrata text further, discussing its timeless importance to our contemporary lives. We will offer a guided tour of the campus and you will be invited to enjoy our planetarium before returning to the Mitchell Art Museum for an exclusive reception at 5 p.m. All of this will be a rich and fulfilling campus day.

Bring-a-Friend

Do you already know the value and personal enjoyment of a St. John’s College seminar or want to share the adventure with someone? Day of Classics is the perfect opportunity to introduce a St. John’s seminar to a friend at a discounted rate. You both will receive $25 off your registration.

Continue the Classics

If you discover that Day of Classics simply is not enough, we offer Year of Classics, a once-a-month cohort that meets in person or online to discuss more texts. Lysistrata is the first reading of the upcoming year, so you will be able to jump right in. From the silly to the sarcastic, the rich complexity of humor will be our theme in these seminars as we read works of literature, drama, and philosophy that will make us laugh, and guide us in exploring the role of comedy in the human condition. Your Day of Classics fee will be pro-rated toward the cost of the Year of Classics program, so please explore this year’s theme and readings.
