In late 2021, St. John’s and the USNA Business Services Division decided to renew their 2019 agreement to allow Johnnies to fill open positions at the Naval Academy.
For Dan Van Doren (A81), the scholarship he created in his father’s name—the John Van Doren Scholarship—is a way to both help Johnnies and keep his father in the conversation.
In early in 2021, Lily Kowalczyk (A18) returned to St. John’s—after studying at Syracuse University and working at Johns Hopkins—to work as a circulation assistant in the Greenfield Library.
As leader of the college Syriac study group, Johnnie senior Joseph Richard (A22) believes the culture of extracurricular study at St. John’s represents “the desire to dig deeper into the possibilities of human thought.”
The Socratic Society, created by St. John’s tutor Jason Tipton and Naval Academy Instructor John Childress, brings students from both institutions together over the course of the semester to discuss various texts.
