St. John’s Student Life recognizes and honors the original inhabitants and stewards of this land known as Oga Po’geh, meaning White Shell Water Place. We acknowledge that these lands on which we live and learn are the traditional, ancestral, and unceded homelands of many Indigenous and tribal nations. We recognize the genocide and systems of oppression that have dispossessed Indigenous people of their lands and continue to affect the diverse peoples still connected to this land.
This acknowledgement does not take the place of authentic relationships with Indigenous communities, but serves as a first step in honoring the land that we inhabit.
